The final edition for the season of the Celery Flats Historical Tours will feature an autumn All Hallows theme that includes a guide through Central Cemetery and some of the historical figures buried there. This event will feature carriage rides between the cemetery and Celery Flats. Other attractions will include a presentation on historical grave markings; headstone rubbings; storytelling; pumpkin bowling and demonstrations such as basket weaving, a working blacksmith shop, and candle making.
Portage Parks & Recreation, in collaboration with the Portage Historic District Commission, is excited to once again offer Historical Tours of Celery Flats. The FREE event series runs 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. on select Sundays at the Celery Flats Historical Area (7335 Garden Lane, Portage). Each event will feature a different historical theme.
The tours include stops at Stuart Manor, The Grain Elevator, Schoolhouse and the Hayloft Theatre. Each building will have a guide to provide details on its rich history and little known facts. Along the walk through Celery Flats, visitors will also find a historical exhibition in the Grain Elevator and demonstrations of everyday skills from past times.
