- The Air Zoo has grown
into the 10th largest non-government aviation
museum in the nation. The Air Zoo offers
a visit more like a day at a theme park than
a trip to a museum. Experience the Wright
Brother's first flight and tour the International
Space Station or take the controls of a military
jet plane, all part of a multi-sensory experience
using full motion flight simulators, 4-D
theatres and live character actors. A collection
of 80 rare aircraft are on permanent collection
and thanks to an affiliation with the Smithsonian
Institution, exhibits and other artifacts
are constantly changing. Also, the Air Zoo
is home to the National Guadalcanal Memorial
Museum and the Michigan Aviation Hall of
Fame.

The museum
was organized in 1969 and is housed in
an 1865 Presbyterian Church. Enjoy seeing the
Victorian kitchen, parlor, bedroom and
other displays offered by the museum. Then visit the barn to see
over 200
years of
farming, blacksmith, gaslights, Michigan
railroad displays and more.

The Barn Theatre

theatre is listed on the State Register
of Historic Sites as the home of Michigan’s oldest resident
summer stock theatre. Located in a charming

Kalamazoo County’s colorful celery heritage can
now be relived at the center. From the local artifacts
on display to the on-site cultivation of celery,
the center demonstrates first hand our county’s Dutch history. In addition
to the Interpretive Center, tour the restored one room schoolhouse and an 1800’s
house. Enjoy a number of special events planned throughout the summer.

less adventurous souls, the park offers an outdoor

national cemetery is the final resting place
for many war veterans, as well as a number of
German Prisoners of War. Learn the history
of Ft. Custer Post Cemetery’s growth
from a small plot to the nation’s fourth largest veteran burial
grounds. The stunning “Avenue of Flags” with over 152
flags is a popular stop.

The museum, rated one of the top ten in the nation with more
than 140 restored antique automobiles
on display, traces the significant technical
developments in automotive transportation.
Vehicles range in age from an 1899 Locomobile
to a Cadillac prototype for the 21st Century.
The collection includes an impressive array
of Rolls Royces, Packards, Cadillacs and
performance cars. Visit the interpretive center,
which is housed in a replica of an old time Shell
filling station.

The Museum was voted the top small museum in Michigan by readers of Michigan Living Magazine. A wildlife management and education center that
is a year-round sanctuary for native and exotic
waterfowl. The center is also home to wild turkeys, pheasants, and
birds of prey. Seasonal
events include migration in the fall and hatching
in the spring. Visit the new Leslie E. Tassell Upland Gamebird Pavilion
featuring
grouse, pheasants and quail, native Michigan species
and birds from around the world, many are rare, threatened or endangered.

Kellogg Forest

Over 700 acres on which over one million
trees have been planted since its donation to Michigan
State University by cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg
in 1932. MSU’s
Forestry Department conducts research in forest management, seedstock selection,
and maple sugar production. The Kellogg Forest offers a Forest Homes, Havens
and Hideaways tour, Tree Identification tour and a tour of the Sugar Bush during
maple syrup season. All tours are about a three-quarter mile walk.

On the grounds of the W.K. Kellogg Biological
Station, the Manor House stands as a testament
to the philanthropic legacy of cereal maker W.
K. Kellogg. Built in the mid-1920’s,
the English Tudor-revival house overlooking Gull
Lake was the summer home of Mr. and Mrs. Kellogg.
After being recently restored to historical
accuracy, the Manor House is now open for guided
tours and during the Christmas season, each room
is decorated for the holidays.
