Kalamazoo, Mich. — Wow your friends by learning how to make the “Mexican Moon Elixer” that was created by master mixologist Angie Jackson, a.k.a. “The Traveling Elixir Fixer.”

The base spirit contains a Michigan moonshine, called “Michigan Moon” from Big Cedar Distilling Company. The distillery is currently located in Sturgis, Mich. but will soon move to Kalamazoo, according to Jackson.

INGREDIENTS:
• 2 Ounces Michigan Moon Moonshine
• 1 1/2 Ounces Carrot Juice
• 1 Ounce Ginger Cumin Simple Syrup (combine 2 parts sugar & 1 part water in a sauce pan; bring to a boil on the stove; add fresh cubed ginger & cumin; let cool; strain)
• 1/2 Ounce Fresh-Squeezed Lime Juice
• Ice
• Cilantro (Garnish)

ITEMS NEEDED:
• Measuring Cup
• Boston Shaker
• Mixing Glass
• Citrus Press
• Hawthorn Strainer
• Cocktail Glass

You can find Angie at Old Dog Tavern in downtown Kalamazoo Wednesday-Saturday nights.

Angie taught mixology at the collegiate level, worked the Chicago bar scene for about a dozen years, has developed many restaurant and bars’ cocktail programs, published multiple cocktail recipes, is a tasting consultant for distilleries, and has served drinks to countless celebrities, including the Obamas and Faith Hill & Tim McGraw.
