“We are excited to welcome 94 teams and more than 1,400 skaters back to Kalamazoo for this event,” said Corey Thompson, competition chair. “We are particularly proud that four teams from the Greater Kalamazoo Skating Association and two teams from Western Michigan University, who are national champions, will be among those competing. It’s a perfect opportunity for local audiences to get an up-close-and-personal look at the results of years of hard work by these amazing athletes.”
Synchronized skating consists of eight to 20 skaters on each team, flowing as one unit at high speeds on ice. Spectators will be able to watch these skaters, age 7 through adults, as they compete in the one of the premier synchronized skating events nationwide. Both U.S. Figure Skating™ and Skate Canada™ sanction the Kick-Off Classic, which is one of the earliest events of the skating season.
Representatives from GKSA will be on hand both days with information on how to get involved in the sport. The event is hosted by the Greater Kalamazoo Skating Association and sponsored by Greenleaf Hospitality Group.
