Midwest Miniatures Museum
The Midwest Miniatures Museum, located adjacent to the Gilmore Car Museum's Historic Campus, features one of the most impressive collections of art miniatures and scale architectural models in the country, and the only one in Michigan.
Here you'll enjoy miniature rooms that look as though they are awaiting the return of their occupants at the end of the day. Actual crystal, real silver and hand-painted china—all painstakingly created by artisans—make each room come alive. The tables and chairs are made of the finest wood and covered with the finest fabrics. Some of the rooms even have miniature light fixtures that brighten the displays. Displays are in several scales, from 1/12, or 1 inch equals 1 foot, and smaller.
In addition to the homes there are numerous shops and work places to marvel at. They might include a toy store or a quilt shop stocked with row upon row of bolts of cloth or even a magical tree house.
The museum offers guided tours and classes and lectures which vary by season.
The attention to detail by the model makers is breathtaking and definitely must be seen to be appreciated.
The museum is located at 6855 W. Hickory Road. It is open daily May - October and Friday-Sunday during April and November, and other times by appointment. The hours are 11-5 on weekdays and 11-6 on weekends.
