Uniquely Kalamazoo to See and Do This Month

This entry was posted in Attractions & Recreation, Exploring Greater Kalamazoo, on March 6th, 2015 .

There are certain events here in Kalamazoo that you can’t replicate or find anywhere else! We’re going to go right ahead and brag about a few of these local experiences, but for a list of all the uniquely Kalamazoo events happening this month, head to our events calendar!

Friday & Saturday, March 20-21
Kalamazoo Valley Museum

This free event invites visitors to meet instrument designers and learn about their trade, attend workshops for a variety of stringed instruments, and hear live performances from area musicians. This is also the 10th anniversary for the Fretboard Festival! For the entire line-up and exact time of every workshop and band performance, visit their website.

Saturday & Sunday, March 21-22
Kalamazoo County Expo Center

This year will see the Kalamazoo Living History Show™ celebrate 40 years as being the largest indoor living history event east of the Mississippi! More than 10,000 historical re-enactors, historians, collectors and the general public from the United States and Canada are expected to attend. The show attracts over 270 of the finest artisans and vendors of pre-1890 living history supplies and related crafts from throughout the United States and Canada. Other highlights include children’s activities, Native American dancing and singing, and many artisans who will demonstrate their crafts.

Monday, March 23, 9am
Bell’s Eccentric Cafe

Every year when Bell’s Brewery taps their summer seasonal wheat ale, Oberon, at the Eccentric Cafe, the entire city of Kalamazoo celebrates the release! Not only is this popular brew a local favorite, but it kicks off the spring season and brings the warmth of summer to our hearts (and our bellies). In addition to the celebration, The Real Fantastics (Motown, Stax, and other classic soul/R&B covers) will perform in the Back Room from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. No cover will be charged, however, after 8 p.m., they ask that everyone be 21 and up (with valid ID).

Saturday, March 28

This five-hour celebration of Michigan beer (and maybe a White Russian), bowling and the most quotable movie of all-time will take our Little Lebowski Urban Achievers to a series of stops all connected with the film in some fashion.

Here’s the tour line up!

  • Pints and/or White Russians at Central City Tap House.
  • Meet Latitude 42 Brewing Co. head brewer Scott Freitas, who epitomizes The Dude like few others in the local beer community, and take a tour.
  • Bowling and Greenbush Brewing Co. specialty brews at the new taproom at Airway Fun Center.
  • Meet-and-greet and samples at One Well Brewing Co.
  • Attend “The Big Lebowski” Quote-Along at Kalamazoo’s Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, where you can order food and beverages during the movie.
