Whether you’re looking to slap on some skates this winter season or catch a hockey game with family and friends, Kalamazoo can check all the boxes on your list.

1 – Home to ECHL competitors and ‘AA’ affiliates of both the National Hockey League’s (NHL) and American Hockey League’s (AHL), the Kalamazoo Wings are at the top of our list for fun winter activities in Kalamazoo.

Whether you’re looking for a date night out or to catch a game with the family, a K-Wings game at Wings Event Center is your answer to a 5-star experience and a night to remember. Visit the Kalamazoo Wings website to purchase tickets today!

2 – The K-Wings aren’t the only way that you can experience great hockey in Kalamazoo.

Thanks to the Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association (KOHA), there are plenty other events happening this winter that will allow you to get your frost time in, both on and off the ice.

KOHA hosts multiple tournaments over the next few months, all of which will lead up to the 2020 USA Hockey Youth Tier II 14U National Championship, April 2nd – 6th at Wings West and Wings Event Center.

This event will bring nearly 40 of the best youth hockey teams from around the country to battle for a National Championship title.

Visit our Discover Kalamazoo Sports Events Calendar to plan your hockey-filled winter weekend.

3 – Enjoy the best of both worlds at Old Burdick’s in Wings West by having above ice access without the cold temperatures of inside the arena.

This family-friendly experience allows you to order a meal, an adult beverage and watch hockey all at the same time.

Aside from being the home of KOHA, Wings West hosts many other tournaments such as the Annual K-Wings Classic, February 14th – 17th and the Green Puck Challenge, March 13th – 15th.

For more information on these events, check out our Discover Kalamazoo Sports Events Calendar.

4 – Catch a Western Michigan University Men’s Ice Hockey game at Lawson Arena. You don’t have to be a Lawson Lunatic to attend a game… but it is highly encouraged.

So, bust out your best bronco gear and grab your favorite snack from the concession stand and prepare for a show because these NCAA Division 1 Broncos will not disappoint.

5 – Once you check out one or all of these local hockey events, there is no doubt that you’ll get the itch to step out on the ice and give it a try yourself.

The following venues offer open skate opportunities for everyone to enjoy this winter season.
