PRIDE month is one of the most anticipated months of the summer in Kalamazoo! It’s a time for Kalamazoo’s locals, visitors, , friends, family and neighbors to come together and celebrate the history and progress of the LGBTQ+ community. Since the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in the cancellation of large-scale events, OutFront Kalamazoo’s annual month-long PRIDE celebration has gone virtual!
OutFront Kalamazoo chose #StillProud as the theme for this month-long virtual celebration of PRIDE. The thought behind #StillProud is that, “even though we cannot gather as a community, Pride can still raise visibility and highlight what makes each of us unique, affirming that this year it is even more important to be seen and heard.”
In addition to four signature events, this virtual celebration includes concerts, book readings, virtual games and much more. Check out the #StillProud Event Calendar for details on events hosted this month. If you’re interested in expressing and sharing why you’re #StillProud this year, participate in the photo contest for the chance to win prizes!
OutFront Kalamazoo was founded as the Kalamazoo Gay Lesbian Resource Center in 1987 as a non-profit, charitable organization serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and allied community of southwest Michigan. Their mission is to create a just, inclusive, equitable, and supportive environment in Southwest Michigan for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities and expressions.

At a time when visibility matters more than ever, OutFront Kalamazoo’s second Signature Event will shine a spotlight on five individuals who are out front in the ongoing fight for justice and equality.
OutFront Kalamazoo’s Executive Director, Amy Hunter, will host a Facebook Live conversation with these leaders and allies:
• Hon. David Anderson, Mayor of Kalamazoo
• Kelly Doyle, CARES Executive Director
• Hon. Tracy Hall, Kalamazoo County Commissioner
• Hon. Jon Hoadley, Michigan State Representative (60th District)
• Hon. Stephanie Moore, Kalamazoo County Commissioner
Each will reflect on the events of recent weeks and the importance of leaders and allies in times of crisis. They will also be invited to share about their personal journey since the historic effort to pass Kalamazoo Ordinance 1856 in 2009 and give their unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the LGBTQ+ community. You won’t want to miss this important event, sponsored by PNC Bank – who joins OutFront in celebrating the contributions of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) individuals in every community.
