If you ever find yourself getting jaded or burnt out as a musician, go listen to some high school musicians. This past weekend I was at the @youtharts festival in Kalamazoo to hear one of my students play in the honors band, and the whole experience ended up being incredibly profound for me. —— The sounds all of the students made (concert band, orchestra, choir, and big band) communicated completely pure and unadulterated joy. It’s easy to lose that joy when playing an instrument pays for your apartment, car, groceries, etc… but that’s why we chose to do this in the first place. Sometimes we (myself included) just need a reminder once in a while. • • • #michiganyouthartsfestival #myaf2019 #highschool #musicians #inspiration #concertband #windensemble #jazzband #bigband #choir #symphony #orchestra #symphonyorchestra #students #professionalmusician #musicianlife #musician #trombonist #teacher #musiceducation #musiceducator #why #joy #whywedowhatwedo #etctrombone
