Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage
Directed by Karen Berthel
Winner of the 2004 New York Drama Circle and Outer Critic Circle awards. Lynn Nottage is one of the most poetic and honored of contemporary American playwrights (Ruined, Crumbs from the Table of Joy) and Intimate Apparel may be her most moving and thoughtful play. Set in a 1900s boardinghouse, Esther, an African American seamstress loves Mark, a white Jewish fabric seller, but agrees to marry George, a Caribbean man she corresponds with under false pretenses. A play about race, love, and dreams.
