Wellspring Presents the 11th Annual Midwest Regional Alternative Dance Festival (RAD Fest) KALAMAZOO, MI –Wellspring/Cori Terry & Dancers presents the 11th annual Midwest Regional Alternative Dance Festival (RAD Fest) at the Epic Center and the Kalamazoo Public Library and various downtown locations on March 6-8, 2020. RAD Fest 2020 will feature the work of over 50 choreographers and 12 screendance makers from Germany, Japan, England, France, New York City, Chicago, and many other U.S. locations including several cities in Michigan, in six different live performances including site specific works, eight master classes, a screendance film series, discussion panels, informances, and networking events.

“Each year this festival grows, and this year’s festival is no exception,” said Festival Curator, Rachel Miller. “It is amazing how popular RAD Fest has become in the national/international dance scene, and I am very excited about the prestigious artists who will be presenting work and teaching master classes this year!”

The three-day festival will present 40 different live performance works with over 300 dance artists performing in five different concerts and at various site-specific locations: The Wellspring Theater and the Judy Jolliffe Theater in The Epic Center on March 6 at 7:00pm & 9:00pm, March 7 at 7:00pm & 9:00pm, and March 8 at 3:00pm, and the Mobile Tour performance (site specific works) in partnership with The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo’s Art Hop on March 6 at 5:30pm. The festival will also run a free-admission screendance series featuring 10 different screendances. The series will run at the Kalamazoo Public Library on March 7 at 3:30pm and will feature this year’s selected films.

“Screendance works are the current trend among dance makers,” said Miller. “They are films made specifically for the camera. Partnering with the Kalamazoo Public Library gives RAD Fest patrons an opportunity to see these works, most of which have won awards at other film and dance festivals, on a big cinema screen as they were meant to be seen.”

Additionally, RAD Fest will offer master classes and workshops to the Michigan dance community and RAD dance artists. Visiting artists will teach on Fri. March 6 at 2:30pm and 4:00pm; Sat. March 7 at 9:15am, 10:45am, 12:15pm, and 1:45pm, and youth master classes on Sun. March 8, at 9:30am and 11:00pm. “We are excited and very honored to offer diverse instruction from such a distinguished group of artists,” said Miller.

In addition to screendance at the KIA, RAD Fest will offer three other free-of-charge community events. The Mobile Tour performances are free and open to the public. Coffee Hour, a mediated discussion group with coffee, tea, and breakfast items provided, will cover topics like pedagogy, archiving, and funding on Sun., March 8 at 10:00am in The Epic Center. An After-Glow reception following the 9:00pm Sat. March 7 performance, which will feature live music, a complimentary buffet, a cash bar, and a chance to meet and network with RAD Fest’s visiting professional dance artists, will also be open to the community and free of charge.

Tickets for the Midwest RAD Fest will go on sale and master class registration will open on February 1, 2020. All other events are free. To order tickets, register for master classes, and view the concert line-ups, please visit www.midwestradfest.org.
