Hickory Corners, Mich.  Follow Discover Kalamazoo’s Miles Baxter and Kayla Kiley as they take a trip back in time at the Gilmore Car Museum.

The museum, which opened in 1966, was voted one of the top five best automobile museums in the U.S. by Antique Automobile magazine. It features more than 300 cars spanning more than 100 years.


This Dusenberg is available to view at the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Mich. (near Kalamazoo, Mich.).

At the museum, you’ll find everything from an 1899 Locomobile, classic Duesenberg and the elusive Tucker ’48 to the Model T and muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. The site also features an 1890s train depot, 1930s gas station, a working 1940s diner, the Pierce-Arrow Museum, a Kalamazoo-made car collection, and the vintage Disney movie set from “The Gnome Mobile.

Checker Cab

Checker Cabs, which famously dominated the streets of New York and Chicago, were made in Kalamazoo from 1923-1982. Records indicate that Checker Motors produced more than 250,000 vehicles in Kalamazoo and employed more than 10,000 workers locally during its 87 years in business. The Gilmore Car Museum is preserving their history by having checker cabs on display.
