Hickory Corners, Mich. — The Great Lakes Chapter of the Volvo Club of America will be hosting its fourth bi-annual meet on the grounds of the Gilmore Car Museum 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 11.
This day includes a judged event with an expected 100-plus cars, special tours of the recently expanded Gilmore Museum at 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 pm, and the awards presentation at 3 p.m.
Owners from across the country will be bringing everything from post war 1950s and 60s “round-fendered” antique Volvos, the iconic boxy 1970s and 80s Volvos, and the modern day Volvos from the 1990s to date. A dinner with a question-and-answer session include Irv Gordon, who is the Guinness World Book of Record holder for the highest mileage privately owned car in the world (nearing 3 million miles on his 1966 Volvo 1800S), as well as a presentation from John Mendler of Pinckney, who recently went on a 2,500-mile rally around the Great Lakes in a 1965 Volvo 544.
