1. Special Exhibits
The Kalamazoo Institute of Art (KIA) has a rotation of special exhibits every year that feature both local and well-known artists. These exhibits feature multiple art mediums including watercolor, sculptures, oil painting and more! The Institute also features a wide variety of events. From live performances, special film viewings, community panels, and theater productions, there is certainly something for everyone. In addition to great exhibits and unique events, there are several art classes available for you to take at your leisure, all taught by local artists. Originally developed to complement the KIA Art School, the KIA Collection focuses on a variety of art mediums. Everything in this eclectic collection is elegantly present and tells important stories. In recent years, the collection has been expanded to include oceanic objects, pre-Columbian gold and ceramics, Africana and East Asian art, all in addition to the early American and European works on paper and 16th century and later photography.
